Full day excursion to the Burren, south of the Galway Bay (web site here). Most of us had seen limestone pavements & outcrops before but not on this scale! We stopped at the Ailiwee Cave, the only major cave in the area that is open to the public (web site here). After lunch there we continued via Ballyvaughan and followed the coastline of County Clare, stopping at the renowned Cliffs of Moher where we had lunch and a stroll (web site here). It was clearly a popular destination for there were many others there also. Sadly, the hoped-for stop at the Burren Smokehouse (salmon smoking) was cancelled (a problem their end) so we had an extended drive back over yet more limestone, enjoying some fabulous views of Galway Bay.
